Did you know that Guthrie was the first capitol of Oklahoma? Established as a result of the April 22, 1889 Land Run, Guthrie became the capitol, and as such, immediately became a booming town! After the state seal was 'stolen' and the capitol changed to Oklahoma City, Guthrie settled in to becoming a quiet yet cozy town where parents wanted to raise their children.
If you have never explored this historic community, be sure to check out the Guthrie Chamber website. Beautiful buildings remain downtown, housing a variety of businesses showcasing antiques, unique & whimsical items, coffee and chocolates, trendy clothing, and more. Several restaurants are available and in the downtown area. Musical entertainment is consistently available in a varety of venues.
